While I’m busy working on a bunch of different things, I thought I’d take a break from those posts (while waiting to finish them.. ahem) to share some of the remaining photos from the Vikings In BC display from Victoria, BC this past summer.
This was a really cool display – all about moulded items.

My March ipsy bag came on the 16th, and I’m just getting around to reviewing it now. I thought I’d share my thoughts about what came in the bag this time.
I still love getting things in the mail, and the pink metallic packaging is always welcome. This month the theme is “floral fantasy” which might be a bit optimistic here in Calgary, though I do have acquaintances who are starting to see their crocus’ come up…
The makeup bag is again the plain flat shape – good for a few small things, but too small to use for a travel case, and too big to toss the daily essentials in and throw in my purse. It might work for a gym bag though. It would be really nice to get a larger bag or something a little more useable (like a pencil-case length or something…)
March Ipsy order
Nyx Butter Lipstick in “Little Suzie” – a blush-pink coral. The scent is only vaguely waxy, no real scent to speak of. The colour is… odd. It’s both orange-y and pink at the same time. Since I don’t normally wear a lot of lipstick, it’s a bit strange, and might take some getting used to. I sort of feel that it’s ‘full face makeup’ lipstick, rather than something to keep in your purse to throw on a bit of colour on an otherwise clean face. It’s also too bold to go on mirror-free… The consistency is REALLY nice though, despite the vague waxy smell, it doesn’t feel waxy at all; it goes on soft and smooth.
Dr. Brandt Pores no more Anti-aging mattifying lotion – To me, it smells like a mix of glue and lavender. Not in a bad way though, just kind of like “oh.. it’s supposed to smell like lavender, but I can also smell something under that… glue… . The scent is really very subtle though; unless you are sensitive to smells you might not even notice it. The lotion is thin and goes on smoothly… but by itself it really doesn’t make ANY difference. The difference is SO subtle (in terms of the mattifying effect) that I wouldn’t even bother. I’ll use up the tube (it’s only 7.5 grams) but I wouldn’t bother buying this product.
Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter – this is a nice big jumbo stick… but I’m getting a bit tired of highlighters that are the wrong shade for my skin tone. This is more like the tone I’d buy in concealer than highlighter, it really doesn’t highlight on my skin at all. The consistency is great though – it goes on really smoothly, without any tugging which is nice. It does however sink into my pores a lot, and gets stuck in creases. I MIGHT consider purchasing this if it was a different colour – an eyeshadow stick for instance. (Love, love, love eyeshadow sticks for travelling btw..) This isn’t all-day colour when used solo though… I don’t think it made it through my 4-hour long meeting on the 16th. (Yep, I tried it out right away!) It will likely need a powder to set it.
Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Cream oil (blow dry crème) – I haven’t tried this yet, because I don’t blow-dry my hair… I was considering opening it to smell it just to share here, but I’ll leave the seal on so I can give it away.
Marsk Mineral Eye Shadow in Lucky Penny – I was kind of freaking out a bit when I got this – as the cap was just BARELY on. I think if I had picked it up the wrong way, the cap would have come right off. Luckily, under the cap is a sticker-seal, which was actually quite challenging to get off (because it’s so small) without tweezers or something. The colour is a really lovely dark copper – a slight metallic red-brown which blends really nicely. In terms of longevity, I put it on at 10:30 a.m. one morning, and by 1:00 p.m. it was still going strong. Now that doesn’t really represent a night out dancing, but it’s better than some products I’ve used!

While chatting with my friend about Viking Knit, we were discussing how to estimate length for a given project. Since doing Viking Knit is somewhat time-consuming, and there’s no good way of adding more wire and continuing a project after it’s gone through the draw plate – one wouldn’t want to weave a lot more than they needed, nor would one want to make too little… However, there are a lot of variables that determine how long a finished piece will be in relation to how long it is on the dowel/jig.
