As some of you living in Calgary or the SCA Kingdom of Avacal know, I’m hosting the competition to find my replacement as Montengarde’s Arts & Science champion at Twelfth Night, on January 21, 2017.
With that… I’m looking for judges!
Information about the competition (format, rubric, judging forms, etc) can be found here. You will note that the format is collaborative and supportive; I’m hoping that all of the judges can help competitors strive towards their best, can encourage amazing arts & sciences, and assist student judges (if applicable) to learn more about the process and participate to the level of their comfort.
If you are able to help judge this competition and assist Their Excellencies in selecting Their new champion, please email me, the current A&S champion (champion_of_artsci [at] avacal [dot org])
You don’t need to be a subject-matter expert!
Judging will be done in a discussion forum, so judges will have the insight of one another and the other competitors in asking questions/etc throughout the presentation. Ideally judges can leave valuable feedback for their competitors for future efforts, though this might be any feedback such as:
- Research insights
- Production suggestions
- Sourcing (shopping) recommendations
- Subject-matter expert introductions
I’m also looking for student judges!
Why student judge?
- If you’re thinking of competing in the future and want an insight into the judging or competition process.
- If you’re new to the SCA and want a low-pressure way to get involved with A&S.
- If you want a front-row-seat in seeing the projects, and meeting our future champion(s).
If you are interested, please email me, (champion_of_artsci [at] avacal [dot org])
The job as a student judge is to sit in on the session they are assigned to and support the judges. This might involve asking questions, being supportive of the candidates/competitors, adding any insights or suggestions they might have, and filling in the judging form – to the level of your comfort.
Relief / back-up Judges
In case of a last-minute change or emergency, I may need a relief or back-up judge or two to fill in. If you’d like to offer up your time, energy, and expertise, please let me know if I can count on you as a back-up judge.
I would also appreciate at least one extra set of eyes in tabulating the scores after the judging is complete. If you are available and would like to help, please let me know.
(Yes, judges and student judges can help with this too… we’ll just be checking one another’s numbers…)
