I was attending a Valentine’s Day themed party, and at the last minute decided that I wanted something red to wear to the party, so I decided to sew up a super-simple circle skater skirt.
I drafted the pattern to have a 13″ front, tapering to a 16″ hem at the back. The skirt is finished with a 1″ finished waist band. Although the fabric is stretchy, I put elastic in the waist band.
The skirt is cut as a full circle with no side seams. The stretchy fabric allows it to go without a zipper or other opening either. Super simple.

For a Valentine's day themed party I drafted a super simple pull-on circle skater skirt and made it up in spandex velvet. It was a very time-efficient project compared to all of my costumes! . ⛸✂📏👗📏✂⛸ #skaterSkirt #circleSkirt #sewing #DIY #fashion #handmade #CalgaryBlogger #yycBlogger #Dawnsdressdiary #mundaneSewing #EverydaySewing #velvet
Since it’s a knit fabric… I didn’t even need to hem it.
I made it up first in red velvet, and then when this went together so quickly, I also made it up in a glitter spandex PVC. Between drafting and construction, the two skirts came together in around an hour. Super efficient!
The glitter fabric doesn’t really photograph well, but it’s basically a grey/silver PVC base with multi-coloured glitter throughout. It has a smooth, almost latex-like finish.
