While shopping at Winners for other brands, I also saw a few items by Paris Hilton Cosmetics. They looked decent, and the packaging was well-sealed so I wasn’t worried about contamination. I thought I’d share a little bit about them here…
Paris Hilton Iridescent Glow Stick
The Iridescent Glow Stick is almost certainly a knock off of the Milk Makeup Holographic Glow Stick… since I haven’t tried the Milk stick, I can’t say if it’s a good dupe or not – but honestly… don’t bother spending the money on the Paris Hilton Iridescent Glow Stick. The payoff is… pretty much zilch. It has a slight sheen only because the product is sitting on top of the skin, and doesn’t melt in the way that the Milk product claims to.
I have tried another stick-style creamy highlighter – the Strobe of Genius Holographic Stick from Nyx Cosmetics. This one definitely does melt into the skin, and has way better colour payoff. However, since right now I’m almost exclusively wearing matte finish foundations, I find putting this on for a full-face look just doesn’t work… it doesn’t feel right blending into a matte foundation, though it does create a good base for additional powder highlighters. I might considering swiping it on on a no-foundation day… though that won’t be for a while since my skin has really been acting up lately.
Paris Hilton Holographic Lip Gloss
The four-pack of lipsticks from Paris Hilton Cosmetics includes a Holographic Lip Gloss which may be trying to knock off the Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Long-Lasting Water-Resistant Lip Topcoat… but fails miserably. Although I don’t have the shade “Litter” – a clear iridescent glitter, I do have another of these Special Effects lip top coats… and there’s actual colour and glitter in them. The Paris Hilton Holographic Lip Gloss appears to be completely clear – the amount of glitter in them is next to nothing.
Yes… I’ve swatched it on my arm… if you can’t see anything – that’s the point!
I like the Vice Special Effects products quite a bit, but if you’re looking for a cheaper version, try Nyx Cosmetics Duo Chromatic Lip Gloss. It’s not QUITE as dramatic, but still FAR better than this Paris Hilton attempt.
Paris Hilton Metallic Lip Gloss and Paris Hilton Matte Liquid Lipstick
There have been a bunch of matte liquid lipsticks on the market lately, so I’m not sure what they were attempting to copy with this product. The lipstick went on very sheer for a matte lipstick, but was actually ok… other than the things I’ll talk about in a bit…. My favourite matte lipsticks are Nyx Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, though my friend is raving about the Lime Crime Matte Valentines.
The Metallic lip gloss was also ok – though it didn’t stay “metallic” on the lips, and just looked brown. It too suffered from another problem I’ll talk about below… I suspect this may have been a knock off of the Kevyn Aucoin Molten Liquid Lipstick or one of the similar metallic glosses out there, but it’s hard to say. My current preference for metallic lipsticks is Nyx Cosmetics Liquid Suede Metallic Matte, though for bolder, brighter shades their Cosmic Metals Lip Cream is also pretty snazzy. My friend has been raving about the Lime Crime Metallic Velvetines too – but I haven’t tried any of them yet (and don’t like ordering new cosmetics sight-unseen online.)
The four-pack also includes “Diamond Lust” in pink, which is almost certainly trying to be a knock-off of the Lime Crime Diamond Crushers. I didn’t get a photo of this, but it was similar – an ok shade, but with some problems… It wasn’t nearly as glittery or holographic as the Diamond Crushers, but still a nice enough colour.
The problems with Paris Hilton Lipsticks
I probably could have kept the “holographic” lip gloss, and used it just as clear lipgloss, if not for…. the smell and the taste.
All of the four lipsticks went almost immediately in the garbage after trying them on, because they smelled terrible (a chemical cleaner kind of smell) and tasted like they would make me ill. Super not-recommended.
If I see other Paris Hilton products for sale… I’ll be walking quickly by. Have you tried anything you liked? Let me know in the comments, and if you want to read more cosmetic comments and reviews, click the Beauty Blog category link to see previous posts.
