White herringbone twill fabric

White herringbone fabric for sale. Quarter for scale of weave

White herringbone twill, relatively a heavy-weight fabric suitable for Viking apron dresses, pants, jackets, etc.

Since the cut edges of this fabric have been hemmed, I haven’t done a fibre test to determine content, though I suspect this is cotton, which should be dyeable. I didn’t see any noticeable flaws in the fabric. I’ve measured from within the hemmed edge, not over the stitching.

Brown and tan herringbone weave silk fabric

Brown and tan herringbone fabric for sale. Quarter for scale of weave

Brown and tan herringbone fabric for sale. Quarter for scale of weave

This herringbone weave is tan or cream and brown, and is the weight of silk suiting. It would work well for a Viking Apron dress, underdress, or to be used as trim on other garments. It would also work as a modern skirt, jacket, or structured dress.

Fibre testing suggests this is 100% silk, though since I bought it without a label, I can not guarantee that. It has some very small subtle texture slubs typical of silk suiting.  Being silk it should be very dyeable, and the weave is period-correct for Viking Age reenactment.

220 cm long by 150 cm wide with a small 8×8 cm square taken out of one edge.

Speckled wedgewood blue fabric

Speckled wedgewood blue fabric for sale. This shows the texture, but is darker than the actual fabric on my monitor.

Speckled wedgewood blue fabric for sale. This shows the texture, but is darker than the actual fabric on my monitor.

This fabric has a ‘dry’ hand originally suggesting to me it may have had some silk content, though fibre testing suggests it’s cotton. It has a speckled appearance, and a nubbly/rough texture.

The weight would be suitable for a blanket, jacket, full skirt, or other garments that require fabric with some weight to them.

Tan and white striped silk fabric

Tan and white striped silk fabric. Quarter for scale of stripe

This fabric has a thick white stripe every 2.5 cm in the weft. There is also a thicker brown thread randomly throughout the weft, and a fine white warp. With the remaining weft light tan, the overall effect is tan, with a mildly shot appearance.

Fibre testing suggests this is 100% silk, though since I bought it without a label, I can not guarantee that. The weight would be suitable for very lightweight pants, loose dress, or other flowy garments.

Tan and multicolour windowpane plaid fabric

Windowpane plaid fabric – multicolour tan for sale. Quarter for scale of plaid.

This is an unusual fabric right off the bat. There’s a multicolour (pink, green, blue, yellow, orange) tiny windowpane plaid throughout. Between each of the ‘panes’, there’s a variety of twill-related weaves in white and tan.

This is a suit-weight fabric, suitable for overdresses, under-dresses, skirts, jackets, pants, etc. When I first picked it up I suspected it was a wool blend, but the fibre testing suggests it is cotton. It’s definitely not synthetic.

Tan & black houndstooth wool/silk blend fabric

Tan & black houndstooth wool/silk blend fabric. Quarter for scale of weave

Tan & black houndstooth wool/silk blend fabric. Quarter for scale of weave

Tan and black houndstooth fabric made of 80% wool and 20% silk.

A suit weight fabric, this would be ideal for suits, jackets, skirts, pants, or structured dresses. It’s a GORGEOUS fabric, with a smooth, soft feel. I originally ordered 4 meters of it for a suit, but they only sent 2.7 meters… which means it’s far too little for what I want.

Rustic chocolate brown wool fabric

Rustic chocolate brown wool fabric

Rustic chocolate brown wool fabric

A chocolate brown fabric with a caramel brown, royal blue, and charcoal grey weft and a caramel brown and blond warp. This is a twill weave, though with the colours the weave is not extremely noticeable.

Fibre testing suggests that this is wool. It’s suit-weight, appropriate for dresses, suit jackets, skirts, or pants, as well as Viking under dresses or apron dresses for other eras for reenactment. Despite the ‘rustic’ look from the colours, it’s soft and smooth to the touch.

Superfine tan summer weight wool fabric

Superfine tan summer weight wool fabric

Superfine tan summer weight wool fabric

This fabric is labeled “superfine all wool” in gold on the selvage, and is tan, lightweight, suitable as summer weight wool. I am finding I keep pulling my wool Viking under dresses to wear except on the hottest of days because summer weight wool is so comfortable. It is a tabby weave, suitable for historical reenactment costuming.

This fabric is suitable for Viking garb, other reenactment periods, and also pants, skirts, jackets, and structured dresses.

I wish I was closer! Wool is so hard to get here.

It’s super hard to find here too – usually I can find it in navy, and then sort of drab colours, but they’re usually sold out of black, and finding other colours (like red! I’m STILL looking for a great red wool suiting) is nearly impossible. That’s why when I do find colours that are interesting or light enough to dye, I scoop them up!
