Cauldron update

Probably the last home dec post for a while, but this is a super quick post about something else I recently finished and wanted to blog about.

Every year I check out what the different craft, hobby, and home dec stores have for Halloween stuff, with the aim of finding things I’d love as year-round decor.  I don’t always find a lot, and a lot of what I find ends up being a little too tacky for me.

I really liked this black, gold, and purple cauldron from Michael’s Halloween 2020 collection, but honestly…. it just looked really cheap. The painting was poorly done, but I loved the shape and so took it home (with that 40% discount coupon of course!) and decided to update it.

After wiping it clean I started with some silver rub n buff metallic wax finish, and took ages to make sure it had full coverage on the outside, as well as the inner lip.  I left the inside black, since that still worked for me. I also used just a little touch of ruby rub n buff on the roses, though just a tiny amount so it’s not really “red” per say, just sort of has a bit of a blush over top of the silver. (But definitely covers up the purple!)

I am way happier with the final project. I left it dry for a few days (it dries super fast actually, but I wanted to make sure before putting anything in it) and then it went up onto my bedroom shelf… currently holding lace fans and fingerless gloves.. and all of those other gothic necessities.
