TARDIS apron – a gift for my mum
All the way back in September 2016 I posted about some TARDIS-print fabric I’d picked up to make something for my mum. Well…. it sat folded up for a while. Then it got cut out. Then it got partially sewn up.
Finally… in the first few weeks of 2022, I finally FINISHED it.
Wow, that’s a journey.
I only got a small amount of this fabric, because it was really expensive for fabric from Marshall’s… (probably because it’s a licensed print…) though I’ve been back a few times since and they haven’t had it anymore, so I guess it sold well! I think I might have originally been planning on making a tote bag for her art supplies – but then she made one of her own, so that plan was scrapped.

Pinning the pocket onto the TARDIS-print apron
Instead, I decided on a small, light painting apron for her to bring to her art classes (or certainly to wear while painting at home, or in the kitchen.. whatever…)
I just grabbed an apron from the kitchen to cut the shape and size, and had JUST enough fabric left over (albeit pieced in one case) to make two generous pockets for Kleenex, hand sanitizer, or tubes of paint. The neck strap is adjustable (since she’s quite a bit shorter than I so I figured it would be better to make this adjustable rather than measuring it to fit me) and the waist ties are just from the binding sewn off the edge.
The pockets stitched down onto the TARDIS-print apron, before I bound the edges.
Of course, for my blog… I’m wearing it in photos instead!
The pockets are NOT placed totally equally – nor are they the same shape – they’re placed to blend in with the print, and were just cut from the leftover fabric – so one of them is pieced in the middle.

TARDIS apron – a gift for my mum
I actually finished this up mid-January (on my birthday actually) but this post is going out AFTER her birthday – since I’m going to give it to her for her birthday gift along with some pretty candles I got on sale before Yule / Christmas.
