Today’s CoBloWriMo blog prompt topic is “media” – and instead of sharing thoughts on mass media and how it relates to my costuming, I thought I’d switch things up a little.
This is my August 24 entry for the CoBloWriMo challenge – Unexpected Source.
Some of the items I’ve received in Largess have let me down entirely new paths for craft and costume! For instance, a few years ago I volunteered at gate at an event, and was invited to pick something from largesse for a thank-you. I picked a wooden lucet fork, and that led my interest in trying lucet. (I’ve since replaced that wooden fork with a bone one from Warm Hearth Creations .)
The #GABoneLucet fork I won from @warmhearthcreations arrived in the post today… just the motivation I needed to make a few more meters of #lucet cord! Isn't it BEAUTIFUL? feels lovely in my hand while working too 🙂 #motivationMonday #lucetcord #SCA #SocietyForCreativeAnachronism #reinactment #reenactment #reenactorsOfInstagram #Viking #justVikingThings #VikingStyle #History #textiles #carvedBone #cordmaking
I also have benefited from other gifts; items that I would have made for myself, but then didn’t need to because they came from largesse instead! One of these was a needlebook – I’ve since acquired two of them – one for my period-style sewing kits, and the other for my mundane one!
At the Festival of the Snow Eaters largesse challenge I donated two bundles of largesse… This means I got to take my choice of two items from others who had donated. My first choice is a felted needle book from Maggie, while my second is a two-hole naalbinding needle from Sigfus. #SCA #SocietyForCreativeAnachronism #medieval #medievalReenactment #SCAdian #craft #crafty #reenactorsOfInstagram #mySCA #largesse #needlebook #naalbinding #nälbinding
Oh… the UFO… Unfinished projects. One of those things that torments me… they sit in my sewing room waiting to be finished. Sometimes when they start bugging me enough they go into a bag and into one of my fabric closets. If I can’t see them they can’t keep bothering me, right?
The CoBloWriMo prompt for today is UFO – and I’ll just show ONE of my UFOs… which I wish I were further along with.
I’ve skipped a few CoBloWriMo prompts because a) I’ve been running tight on time and b) I wasn’t feeling very inspired.
I realize that only a few days notice to start a new month-long project was just too short notice, and it’s making me more unhappy than happy… to basically only post about things I’ve done in the past, while I have so many projects I actually want to work on.
That being said… I DID feel inspired to talk today about the prompt…
