Mirrored pen cup

Ok… I’m getting a little extra now with all of the new decorations for my bedroom, right?

I loved the silver contact paper I used for my tissue box and hoped to use it for a pen cup (previously I had a coffee mug with Finnish metal musicians on it!) but I didn’t have enough. While I was shopping for more, instead I found a sheet of self-adhesive tiny mirror squares.

Bamboo silk rope

RedGreenSilkBambooRope7

Handmade bamboo-silk rope

I’ve been loving the belts, harnesses, and other accessories from Creations by Magi on Instagram lately. Unfortunately, they’re well out of my price range, so I figured I’d try making one of my own. I can’t find the right kind of cord, so instead I was inspired by my friends at HavenKink, who make gorgeous hand-made ropes.

Red purse shaped like a lute

Complete red velvet lute-shaped purse (front)

After making two new purple velvet “lute” shaped purses, I decided to make one with a slightly different shape, and this time in red and gold.

Three different purses, the two phallic-shaped ones, and the red lute-shaped purse

You might remember that my other “lute” shaped purses are very phallic. This is actually a documentable style, as per my previous research post.  However, there is also a similar purse that is much more “lute” shaped, and a lot less phallic shaped, so I opted to try that design as well.

Celebration – lute-shaped purses

Large and small "Lute" shaped purple velvet purses (front)

Large and small “Lute” shaped purple velvet purses (front)

About a year and a half ago I made a purse shaped like a “lute” for an A&S competition. When we were trying to think of what kind of largess to make to celebrate Caterina’s elevation to the Order of the Laurel, I offered to make a purse shaped like a lute similar to the one I’d already made. The purse is late period, from a variety of sources in Europe (England, the Netherlands, Italy, and more) so is mostly suitable for her late-period Italian persona.

My original project can be found here.

While my documentation with extant examples can be found here.

Throwback Thursday: Off-white silk corset

Back of the white silk overbust corset

Back of the white silk overbust corset

I’m calling this a Throwback Thursday because this is actually a corset I made a while ago (so I don’t have any work-in-progress photos either). I made this to sell, back when I was hoping to get commissions for custom work (I’m not looking to do custom work anymore).

Last week I showed off a white silk corset using gorgeous sheer embroidered fabric, and this corset uses the same beautiful fabric!

A bit about this corset:

This is an off-white overbust corset with a variety of textures on the outside. Some panels are white silk with sheer cream silk with cream and silver swirly embroidery. Other panels are off-white shantung silk with applied satin ribbon. The ribbon is a darker cream. Other panels are plain off-white shantung silk.
