Gothic Cathedral style shelf cabinet

A few months ago I was laying in my room and looking around at all the pretty things I’d made using the laser cutter, CNC router, Cameo Silhouette and embroidery machine at the maker space – and a new idea came to me.

I wanted to make a cabinet to hide some of my rather mundane (and decidedly not spooky) hair and skin care items that I keep on top of my dresser.

I started out with a sketch book and then took that idea to Adobe Illustrator. Not only did I want a design for the cabinet to suit my spooky-creepy-cute aesthetic, but I also wanted the cabinet to have lights in it – light that would stream out of holes in the doors/etc to glow when my overhead lights were off.

Witch Hands wall art

DIY glazed witch hand wall art

DIY glazed witch hand wall art

In my continuing story of adding things I find dark, creepy, macabre, and beautiful to my gothic gallery wall(s), I ran across the Witch Hand Wall Art – Home Decor Piece from Hysteria Machine. I follow them on Instagram (and if you don’t, and love this kind of thing, you should too…) and instantly loved this art piece which is adorned with their trademark beautiful filigree elements. My new Hedeby-style bag, using the horse-and-rider embroidery I made nearly a year ago!

Back in February 2023 I showed off a Viking-inspired embroidery of a horse and rider that I had done on the Brother Innovis embroidery machine at the Maker Space. At the time I had a feeling I’d make a tote bag from it, but wasn’t entirely sure and sought out ideas.

Well… this is just a quick update to show off what I made with that embroidered tan wool fabric.

3D printed bead hangers (Part 2 – Silver)

3D Printed SCA costume accessory - modelled after Finnish Iron Age Bead Hangers

3D Printed SCA costume accessory – modelled after Finnish Iron Age Bead Hangers

Back in 2017 I went to a workshop to learn about bronze casting, and cast a single bead hanger based off a 9th Century  Finnish find.  Unfortunately due to time restrictions (and an accident on site) I wasn’t able to cast a second hanger to complete the set. Later in 2019 I used the same basic design to make some wooden bead hangers, though I’ve never yet worn them as bead hangers. Then, a few weeks ago I posted about a pair of bronze 3D printed ones that worked… just not the way I hoped that they would. While those were in progress (after making a mistake that I thought would be irrecoverable) I submitted a second file to print those bead hangers – these ones.
