Embroidered silk pillowcases

I picked up this gorgeous black silk charmeuse fabric at the 2023 Grandmother’s Sale, and it hung around in my sewing room for a while, as I was unsure about what I wanted to do with it. It would be enough for a dress, but I wasn’t sure that I wanted to make a dress with it.

Then when I met a woman making luxurious silk scrunchies at the Maker Space, I realized I really wanted to make pillowcases with them (I already have red and gold, and silver and navy polyester charmeuse pillowcases). I originally made these in paper (as single arched windows), but decided on a slightly different design to cut out of 1/8″ thick Baltic birch plywood for this project.

Coffin shaped mirror (version two, laser cut with spiderwebs)

Version two of my coffin-shaped mirror

Version two of my coffin-shaped mirror

Back in the summer, I went to Michael’s to see their Hallowe’en stuff, and liked, but didn’t get the coffin-shaped mirror they had. Of course that meant that a week later when I went back (with the coupon in my hand of course) … it was gone.

I looked online – their coffin mirror was sold out EVERYWHERE, and of course, being a mirror, even if they had it in another city, it wasn’t eligible to be shipped anyways. I looked online for other sellers of similar things, and there were a few that were cute (at 10x the price…) and a few that were way too big, and a few that were too kitchy.

So of course, I set out to make my own.
