Autumn Plaid Circle Skirt

Wearing my DIY plaid circle skirt

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might remember last year I made a few long skirts for winter and cooler weather. I love wearing these over thermal leggings, and so when I found some more heavy knit plaid fabric at the 2023 Grandmother’s Fabric Sale, I

I took the fabric, along with my pattern to the Maker Space to use their big tables (much nicer than using my living room floor!) and cut it out.  I also used their serger for the side and back seams, and to edge the hem.

Red on Red print Draped-Front Dress

When you find a pattern you love, that’s easy to make, gets compliments, is comfortable and flattering to wear…. well that’s one of the great things about being a sewist, right? The ability to make MORE of the garment in different fabrics and colours!

So yep… I’ve done it again, another draped-front dress.  This time in a soft t-shirt knit, with a black matte PVC for the shoulders and back yoke.

Dollar Store DIY – Skull Sconce

Light up skull added above one of my laser cut shelves on my gothic gallery wall

Light up skull added above one of my laser cut shelves on my gothic gallery wall

I really liked the filigree skulls they have at Dollarama for Halloween (even if they are plastic) but wasn’t sure if there was anything I could do with it for my ongoing gothic gallery wall – until I saw they also had remote-controlled puck lights.

This was a super fast and easy DIY – and  if you wanted one too (and your dollar store still has the skulls or something else cute like it) you could make it even easier by skipping a step or two if you want.

I started off just by playing with where I wanted the puck light to sit – knowing that the skull would be “looking down” at me – not flat against the wall – because the back of the skull isn’t flat!  I REALLY wanted the light to sit in his teeth area, however it was too wide to fit. I considered breaking it down to MAKE it fit… but then decided it would be ok for the puck light to sit in his forehead instead.

A flickering battery-operated tealight would be super cute in here too!

Miko Craft Dianne Back Pack – Rain Print

Rain print mini backpack

Rain print mini backpack

Previously I showed off designs made by MikoCraft – I used the Dianne backpack pattern to make a bag using a reptile PVC with moth embroidery and a second Dianne back pack using upcycled galaxy pixel print PVC

I liked the pattern so much, I made a third mini backpack using a fleece backed nylon fabric that I picked up at the 2023 Grandmother’s Fabric sale. The print looks like rain drops (and the fabric is water repellant)

Coffin shaped mirror (version one, matboard & skulls)

Skull embellished coffin-shaped mirror

Skull embellished coffin-shaped mirror

Back in the summer, I went to Michael’s to see their Hallowe’en stuff, and liked, but didn’t get the coffin-shaped mirror they had. Of course that meant that a week later when I went back (with the coupon in my hand of course) … it was gone. (As was the Veiled Maiden bust, and a few weeks later a bunch of other cute stuff too…)

I looked online – their coffin mirror was sold out EVERYWHERE, and of course, being a mirror, even if they had it in another city, it wasn’t eligible to be shipped anyways. I looked online for other sellers of similar things, and there were a few that were cute (at 10x the price…) and a few that were way too big, and a few that were too kitchy.

So of course, I set out to make my own.
