Pyrography box – medieval spinning

After my first round of wood-burned bling boxes, I decided I really wanted to make more – some as bling boxes for my various costumes, but some as sewing/gear boxes to hold various things particularly for my SCA play.

Although most of the small wooden boxes I picked up for Viking-inspired bling boxes were reasonably sized, I also picked up two very small boxes from the dollar store. Each are only about 14cm x 8cm x 8cm approximately. They won’t hold very much; a beaded necklace, a small brooch, and a pendant perhaps… or my nålbinding needles and lucet fork perhaps. I may also use it for beads that I haven’t strung up yet – though since I have new glass beads to identify, this box may now be too small!

On the hunt for Diamond Twill

After scoring some gorgeous blue diamond twill during my trip to Finland last summer, I am still on the lookout for MORE. I know that the chances of finding more of it on my next summer trip to Finland will be slim (though you KNOW that I will look…) so I thought I’d look elsewhere too. (Since the seller didn’t have a website)  

More woodburned boxes

In my previous post, I mentioned that I took a pyrography class at Borealis Yule, and then was further inspired to try to give the craft a few more goes.

I wanted to make bling-boxes for my Viking age costume jewellery, as well I thought they’d make for a nice way to store things like tablet weaving, sewing supplies, and other things.

I did a number of different designs, largely inspired by Fiskr Art, tattoo designs (which are Viking-inspired, not necessarily representative of historic artefacts). In my previous post I showed off some boxes with designs with dragons or serpents with naalbinding needles, and in this post I’ll show off some of the other designs I did as well.
